Xavier Teste, French trumpeter, principal cornet in band of Guides de l”Empereur (1854), principal trumpet of Paris Opéra orchestra, active in the Concerts du Conservatoire (1872-96), performed Handel’s Messiah with the Concerts Lamoureux on a special D trumpet in 1874, lengthened this trumpet’s slides to create a C trumpet that he used in orchestral playing (with some resistance from his colleagues), taught at Paris Conservatory (1879-80), performed world premiere of Saint-Saens’ Septet on alto trumpet, had Besson to make G piccolo trumpet, born on this day.
