Don Cherry, American cornetist, influential free-jazz improviser, freelanced in LA while a teenager, met and began integrating his style with avant-guard saxophonist Ornette Colemen, forming a quintet that received attention, broke away from Coleman to form his own New York Contemporary Five, moved to Sweden and immersed into “world music” jazz, learning flute and exotic percussion instruments, moved back to U.S. to San Francisco, working with various groups, played pocket trumpet, born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
