Charlie Gaines, American jazz trumpeter, played in various dance bands, moved to NYC to join Wilbur Sweatman’s orchestra, worked as staff arranger/composer and trumpeter with Clarence Williams, recorded with Fats Waller’s band in 1929, played with the Hot Chocolates revue, backing Louis Armstrong’s band in 1932, recording Gaines’ hit composition Ants in My Pants, formed his own band in Philadelphia, then downgraded to trio, died in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
