Richard Vance, American jazz trumpeter, toured with territorial band until joining Lil Hardin Armstrong’s band as lead trumpet (1934), then in NYC played with several bands, including Fletcher Henderson, Charlie Barnet, Don Redman and Duke Ellington, born in Mayfield, Kentucky.
