Donald Byrd, very influential American jazz trumpeter, playwright, poet, painter, art collector, attorney, licensed pilot, impresario, student of William Vacchiano and Joe Alessi, freelance artist in New York, lived in Paris, studying with Nadia Boulanger and Maurice André(!), member of the Paris Jazz All Stars, educator with wide impact at Rutgers, Howard, the Hampton Institute, Delaware State, Queens College, New York University and Oberlin Conservatory, earning a law degree from Howard, born in Detroit, Michigan.
