Jimmy Owens, American jazz trumpeter, played in Marshall Brown’s Newport Youth Band (1959-60), freelanced in NYC in the early 1960s, played with Slide Hampton, Lionel Hampton, Maynard Ferguson, and many other jazz greats, led his own bop combos, member of the Art Nova, studio musician in NYC, led group called Jimmy Owens Plus, leader in many arts organizations, teacher at the New School Jazz and Contemporary Music Program, born in NYC.
