Elden Benge, American trumpeter and manufacturer, jazz soloist in dance bands, studio musician in California, principal of the Chicago Civic Orchestra, principal of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 1928 (age 24), principal of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1933), became friends with 2nd trumpeter, Renold Schilke, and began experimenting with trumpet modifications, made first trumpet in 1935, principal at WGN Radio Orchestra in Chicago, died in Burbank, California.
