Perry Lowery, American cornetist, composer and conductor, highly respected soloist of his time, first African-American to establish his own vaudeville act in a circus, joined the band Darkest America when young, then the Wallace Circus (1893-1906), then the Original Nashville Students, won cornet solo contest in Kansas, conducted the Richards and Pringles Minstrels, solo cornet at the Trans-Mississippi Exposition, formed P.G. Lowery’s Famous Concert Band, P.G. Lowery’s Vaudeville Company, Progressive Musical Enterprise and P.G. Lowery’s Mighty Minstrels, dedicatee of Scott Joplin’s A Breeze from Alabama, died in Cleveland, Ohio.
