Wilbur (“Dud”) Bascomb, American jazz trumpeter, dropped out of high school to tour with Erskine Hawkins’ orchestra (1934-44; they recorded Tuxedo Junction), played with Ellington, then in NYC with various combos and on Broadway, known for great use of mutes and soloing, inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, died in NYC.
