Grace Cole, British trumpeter and bandleader, played a radio program at age 15, first woman to compete for (and win) the Alexander Owen Memorial Scholarship, joined Gloria Gaye’s All Girls Band during WW2, played in Ivy Benson’s band as lead trumpet and soloist, first female to join the George Evans Band (1951), joined with her husband the Squadronaires, formed an all-female band that she led (1952-6), made a Freeman of the City of London in 1990 for her inspiration to women and brass bands, died in Wescott, England.
