A performance of Biber on natural baroque trumpet

Just a quick note to share a wonderful video recording made by natural trumpeter, Jean François Madeuf, and a group called the Rossetti Players. They are playing the Sonata à 6 by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber. This performance/recording was made in the Franziskanerkirche in Vienna using the oldest organ in Austria: the Wöckherl-Orgel of 1642. This organ plays at high pitch (A=465) and in mean tone temperament, which works nicely for the natural trumpet (not too many conflicts with the harmonic series).

By the way, look out for tomorrow’s post for a great opportunity to support another great natural trumpeter….stay tuned!!!
